All of Goebel's artworks on this site are original, limited edition prints. They are not reproductions of paintings or Giclee (ink jet) prints. In the spirit of preserving century old techniques and traditional craftsmanship, Goebel’s plates are painstakingly handmade for each image and the prints are hand-pulled. Each print bears an impression relative to the kind of plate used. For example, etching plates leave an embossed edge around the image area from the immense pressure exerted when the paper and plate are simultaneously run through the press. The plate mark is a desirable quality because it authenticates that the print is hand pulled and typically more valuable.
Hand-pulled, limited edition, fine art prints are desirable as collectibles because there are only so many impressions pulled for each edition. Hand-pulled prints differ significantly from Giclee prints. Giclee prints use a special ink jet printer and are often reproductions of paintings. Hand-pulled prints are unique in that there will be slight variations and the artist/master printer can use higher quality inks and papers.
Because Goebel’s works are self published, the editions are respectively small. Typical edition sizes range from 8 to 65. Once an edition is sold out, it is gone. If you see a print you like, best get it before the edition sells out!
